We have now determined the winner of Student Competition 1 (most retweeted tweet before early-bird deadline). We identified candidate tweets by a regular search for the hashtag #RE14 on twitter, resulting in three tweets that had more than 1 retweets between June 23 and July 15 (start and end of the competition) and originated from university students. Then, we used the Twitter API to retrieve the raw data of those three tweets. We determined the winner with the following formula, considering number of retweets and number of followers of people who retweeted: sqrt(mean(number of followers)) * (number of retweets)

This results in the following ranking:

• First place: 709 points
• Second place: 203 points
• Third place: 64 points

The Industry Laboratory is a new concept introduced at this year's conference. The goal is to enable industrial participants to discuss experiences, demonstrate products and share their vision for the future with the research community.
