Survey on conference experience

We have administered an anonymous survey, asking RE'14 participants for feedback on the conference. We received 125 responses (31% response rate) on questions ranging from overall conference experience, to satisfaction on the different tracks, workshops and tutorials. You can download the survey results here.

Conference Overview

RE'14 offers an extensive program of interest to both academia and industry including three distinguished keynote speakers and three conference days full of papers, panels, industry laboratories, posters and demos. A series of exciting tutorials to develop skills in and advance awareness of requirements engineering practices is of particular interest to industry. The main conference is preceded by two days of workshops and the doctoral symposium.

“RE is an applied field of research, thus relevance for industry is very important.”

“This year we are working very hard to attract and include a significant industrial presence, and estimate that up to 30% of the participants will be industry professionals.”

Prof. Dr. Tony Gorschek, General Chair

Innovation in and through Requirements Engineering

The IEEE International Requirements Engineering Conference is the premier international forum for researchers, industrial practitioners, educators, and students to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences, results and challenges in the field of requirements engineering (RE).

RE'14 has a dual theme focused on innovation. Innovation in Requirements Engineering considers new ideas and breakthroughs in the area. Innovation through Requirements Engineering centers on how its practices, processes, models, methods and frameworks enable and support innovation in product development.

RE'14 will take place in Karlskrona, Sweden. Sweden's southernmost archipelago is composed of 1,993 islands, skerries and islets - from Hasslö in the west to Utlängan in the east. Karlskrona can be reached by airplane from Stockholm, by direct train from Copenhagen or by ferry from Gdynia, Poland.

Call for contributions

RE'14 invites original submissions of research papers and industry papers in all areas of requirements engineering including elicitation, specification, modeling, analysis, verification and evolution. Categories of research papers include Technical Solution papers that describe and validate better solutions to requirements problems, Scientific Evaluation papers that evaluate existing problem situations or proposed solutions by scientific means and Vision papers that explore successes and challenges of requirements practices, or present research roadmaps. Industry papers report on the application of requirements engineering techniques in real-world settings, present problems or challenges encountered in practice and report on innovative approaches to requirements engineering practice in industrial or government settings. RE'14 also welcomes submissions for workshops, tutorials, panels and interactive events, poster and tool demonstrations and the doctoral symposium.

Thursday, August 28 Annie I. Antón
Friday, August 29 Anthony Finkelstein

Anthony I. (Tony) Wasserman is a Professor of Software Management Practice at Carnegie Mellon University - Silicon Valley, and the Executive Director of its Center for Open Source Investigation (COSI). In Spring, 2014, he was Shaw Visiting Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore.

Annie I. Antón is a Professor in and Chair of the School of Interactive Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. She has served the national defense and intelligence communities in a number of roles since being selected for the IDA/DARPA Defense Science Study Group in 2005-2006. Her current research focuses on the specification of complete, correct behavior of software systems that must comply with federal privacy and security regulations.

Anthony Finkelstein is a graduate in systems engineering holding a BEng, MSC and PhD. He is Professor of Software Systems Engineering at University College London (UCL) and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is also a Member of Academia Europaea and a Fellow of City & Guilds of London Insitute. He serves as Dean of UCL Faculty of Engineering Sciences. He was formerly Head of UCL Department of Computer Science. He is a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London and at the National Institute for Informatics, Tokyo, Japan.
